Academic Staff Member at the Department of History and Theory of Art for Teaching Courses in “Cultural Management” (applications by 13 June 2026)

The Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem announces an open call for the position of an academic staff member at the Department of History and Theory of Art to teach courses in the field of “Cultural Management” (0.5 FTE).

Number of Positions / Role / Field of Activity:

1x position – Assistant Professor or Assistant at the Department of History and Theory of Art for teaching courses in Cultural Management.

Requirements:

  • University degree in a relevant field, at least a Master’s degree
  • Submission of a teaching concept in the required area of cultural management (focused on project management, fundraising, art marketing)
  • Overview of current cultural events and production in the cultural and creative industries (CCI), knowledge of project activities and production work in culture and creative environments
  • Good command of English, organizational and communication skills

Workload: 50% of full-time working hours (may be adjusted based on mutual agreement)

Expected Start Date: September 1, 2026

Place of Work: Faculty of Art and Design, Pasteurova 9, 400 96 Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic

Additional Information:

For a full-time Assistant Professor (100% FTE), direct teaching load in theoretical subjects is 12–18 hours per week (6–9 courses per semester depending on creative activity). At 50% FTE, this corresponds to 6–9 hours per week. An integral part of the position includes creative and research activities (expected involvement in research and publishing, organizing exhibitions, participation in faculty activities), supervision and consultation of student theses, and participation in evaluation committees. Teaching is conducted in Czech.

Potential Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses in cultural management (project management, fundraising, art marketing)
  • Expanding teaching areas according to expertise (e.g., design thinking, creative thinking, heritage production and presentation, curatorial practice, financial management, event production for cultural and creative industries)
  • Participation in final review committees and state exam boards, supervision of student theses
  • Involvement in creative and research activities of the faculty

Teaching Concept Requirement:

Applicants are required to submit a general concept for teaching courses in cultural management (project management, fundraising, art marketing) for:

  • Bachelor’s programs (Design, Fine Arts, Production for CCI)
  • Follow-up Master’s program in Curatorial Studies

  • Production and Communication I & II (BA Design and Fine Arts)
  • Cultural Production and Marketing I & II (MA Curatorial Studies)
  • Project Management and Preparation I (BA Production for CCI)
  • PR and Fundraising (MA Curatorial Studies)
  • Heritage Preservation (MA level)
  • Management of Cultural Organizations (MA program in cooperation with other faculties)
